Corralejo
The Canaries' biggest dunes, one bus stop away
Corralejo's nine kilometres of beach are jable, white sand ground from seashells, under the largest dunes in the Canary Islands, with Lobos and Lanzarote on the horizon. Line 6 stops beside the dunes and ends at the harbour, where the Lanzarote ferries and the Lobos boats leave.

Getting to Corralejo
From Fuerteventura Airport, follow the airport-to-Corralejo guide: line 3 to Puerto del Rosario, then line 6 to Corralejo. From the capital, line 6 is the relevant corridor. These are scheduled public services rather than a guaranteed connection, and line 6 has marked local variations: the board on this page marks the trips that vary and the day the times were read.

Before you settle in
Keep the way home in mind.
Choose the line 6 return before starting a dune, beach or boat outing. Airport-bound travellers still need the separate line 3 leg from Puerto del Rosario, so allow a comfortable change and protect airline check-in time. A Lobos boat has its own ticket, operating conditions and return arrangements.

Get to know Corralejo.
Corralejo works especially well when you want contrasting experiences without changing base: pale sand and open Atlantic scenery at the protected dune coast, a compact centre for meals and an evening walk, and a harbour looking toward Lobos. The dunes are outside the town centre, so treat them as their own outing rather than assuming the resort and natural park are one continuous pedestrian attraction.
Why go
-
Sand made of seashells
The Grandes Playas run nine kilometres beside the dunes, and their white jable sand is eroded shell, fine enough that the tourism board calls it a natural spa for the skin. El Médano, nearest the town, belongs to the kitesurfers and windsurfers; Bajo Negro, by the Riu hotels, to the sunbeds.
-
Two islands from one quay
Fred. Olsen Express, Baleària Canarias and Líneas Romero sail to Playa Blanca on Lanzarote. The Lobos boats leave from the same harbour, and the crossing takes less than fifteen minutes.
-
The best-connected base in the north
Line 6 runs to the capital, line 8 to El Cotillo, and both general maps end at the harbour. No other town in the north gives you as many days out without a car.

What to do in Corralejo
- Beach Don’t miss
Corralejo’s dune coast
The natural park places an extensive field of pale dunes beside long beaches. It is the defining landscape near Corralejo, but the protected coast deserves time of its own. Use established access points, take water and avoid disturbing vegetation or marked areas while exploring.
- Activity Don’t miss
The harbour and Lobos
Islote de Lobos can only be reached by sea from the harbour in Corralejo, and the Cabildo issues an authorization to visit the islet. Arrange the authorization and the boat independently rather than treating them as part of the bus journey.
- Food & drink Don’t miss
A centre made for an unhurried evening
After a beach or dune outing, Corralejo’s central streets and waterfront make a practical place to pause for food and continue on foot. This mix of nature by day and an active resort centre after sunset is the town’s strongest advantage as a north-island base.
- Activity Don’t miss
A day across the strait to Lanzarote
Corralejo harbour is the Fuerteventura end of the crossing to Playa Blanca on Lanzarote. Fred. Olsen Express, Baleària Canarias and Líneas Romero each publish the route. Armas Trasmediterránea’s site says that company is now Baleària. Fred. Olsen states 25 minutes by fast ferry and Baleària 35 minutes. Book the sailing with the operator and plan Lanzarote’s buses separately.

Corralejo’s Big Beaches
Very close to Corralejo, the Grandes Playas run for nine kilometres beside the Corralejo Dunes, the largest in the Canary Islands, in the Corralejo Natural Park. El Médano, the closest to the town, is used mainly for kitesurfing and windsurfing; further north, Bajo Negro beach in front of the Riu hotels has sunbeds and parasols for hire. Line 6’s route maps have the stops Hoteles Riu Ida towards Corralejo and Hoteles Riu towards Puerto del Rosario.
- Beach
Get off at Hoteles Riu for the dunes
Line 6 stops at Hoteles Riu Ida on the way into Corralejo and at Hoteles Riu on the way out, right beside the Grandes Playas. From there the dunes are on foot, and there is no shade.
- Activity
Kitesurf or windsurf at El Médano
El Médano, the beach closest to town, is where the kitesurfers and windsurfers launch. Watch from the sand, or book a lesson.
- Walk
Walk to the quay
The harbour is about five minutes' walk from the centre, and the general line 6 and 8 maps end there, at Muelle Corralejo, after the bus station.
- Activity
Cross to Lanzarote for the day
Fred. Olsen Express quotes 25 minutes by fast ferry to Playa Blanca and Baleària 35. Book the sailing with the operator and you have a second island for the day.

How a day in Corralejo feels
A plan built on the buses this guide already names. The departure times are in the board on this page; choose your bus back before you set out.
-
Morning
Dunes first, while it is cool
From the capital take line 6 and get off at Hoteles Riu Ida for the Grandes Playas; the dunes have no shade, so carry water and go early.
-
Middle of the day
Back into town on the same line
A later line 6 towards Corralejo brings you into the centre for lunch; the town is compact enough to cross on foot.
-
Afternoon
Harbour, then the way home
Walk to the quay, where the Lanzarote ferries and Lobos boats leave, then take line 6 back from the station or the quay stop: the sheet says services towards Puerto del Rosario leave the quay ten minutes before the printed time.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about Corralejo
How do I get from Fuerteventura Airport to Corralejo by bus?
Line 3 (or 10 or 16) from the terminal to Puerto del Rosario bus station, then line 6 to Corralejo; some weekday line 6 trips keyed via Parque Holandés call at the hospital and the airport. The timetable on the airport-to-Corralejo guide shows both legs.
Can I reach the Corralejo dunes by bus?
Yes: line 6 stops at Hoteles Riu beside the Grandes Playas and the dunes. Choose a general trip; the hotel variants run between the hotels and the bus station.
Is Corralejo a good base without a car?
The best in the north: line 6 to the capital, line 8 to El Cotillo, ferries to Lanzarote and boats to Lobos from the harbour. The one cost is a change in Puerto del Rosario for the airport.

-
Separate the town, dunes and island visit
Build the day as distinct parts. Walking around central Corralejo does not establish a safe or convenient walking route to every beach access point, and a Lobos trip needs separate permission and boat planning.
-
Read the exact line 6 variation
TIADHE marks hotel and Parque Holandés variations on selected departures. Match the service to the stop area you actually need, then save the return option before leaving mobile coverage or settling on the beach.
-
Stay on the bus for the harbour
The general maps for lines 6 and 8 include Muelle Corralejo after Corralejo bus station. The line 6 hotel variant and the line 8 trip that does not stop at La Oliva do not list that quay. Official tourism puts the harbour about five minutes’ walk from Corralejo, and both lines have marked ramp-equipped departures on TIADHE’s reduced-mobility timetable.
-
Line 7 via Corralejo
Some line 7 trips between Puerto del Rosario and El Cotillo are keyed “Pasa por Corralejo” (via Corralejo): the line 7 map for those trips has the stops Lobos Bahia and Estacion de Co in both directions. The variant for your day appears as the note on the departure, on the board on this page.
