Antigua
Spain's first protected goat's cheese, and windmills
In 1996 Majorero became the first goat's cheese in Spain with a Denomination of Origin, and its museum in Antigua has its own line 1 stops. In the village, windmill sails still turn in the trade wind, a museum shows how they milled grain, and a stately home sells island crafts.

In Antigua, the Museo del Queso Majorero is devoted to Majorero cheese, Fuerteventura’s gastronomic pride and, since 1996, the first goat’s cheese in Spain with a Denomination of Origin. It walks from the island’s volcanic origins through its first inhabitants, herding and the Majorero goat to the cheese, beside a mill for gofio and a large garden of cacti, native plants and palms with a place to eat and a shop. Line 1’s route maps have their own stops there: Museo del Queso Majorero on the way out from Puerto del Rosario and Molino de Antigua on the way back. Sails that still turn in the trade wind
Windmills break up Antigua's flat countryside, their sails still moved by the warm trade winds as they were centuries ago. The windmill museum in the centre shows how the grain was milled inside one.
